So, I made it to Yale without any major problems... minus the fact that my father drove off with the directions for getting online, and I left one of my books somewhere. Oh well... The only major complaint right now is COMMONS FOOD!!! I THOUGHT I HAD MORE TIME AWAY FROM IT!!! The dining hall is giving us this for our stay... thank god there are places across the street and whatnot... meh

So, this is what I turned into the STs for a drama die... which ended up going to a blacksmith roll, I believe, which is appropriate. Forgive me for the length of it, as I fail at finding out how to do the little link thingies... but yes, story!

I started learning when I was a child. My father had no sons, so he taught me all he knew. We started with little things- rings, bracelets, a knife or two. Then he started to teach me more, the secrets of our clan. The first thing that I made was a simple longsword. Each item we made was melted down, reforged into something useful, and sold. We managed to stay secret for a good, long time. Father even showed me the book that had been passed down from generation to generation. Once he died, I would inherit it, to keep it secret and safe for my children. Unfortunately, our secrecy and safety did not last.

I don’t know how they found us, but then, that’s how it goes. Either way, they decided that they would deal with us the biggest, flashiest way they could find. Literally. Jack of Irons, the 35-foot giant, came crashing into our village. My father told me to hide, pushing me into a hole. I did not see what happened, but I suspect that my father, wielding a blade of his own creation, strode out to do battle with the monster. Whatever happened, when the stomping and roaring faded, I emerged from my hiding place. The town was destroyed, and my father nowhere to be seen. As the survivors watched, I retrieved my father’s book, and began walking, in no particular direction.

I traveled for several years. My girlish frame became that of a woman’s, but I continued to smith, trading services for food and shelter. My arms were strong, my skin scarred from sparks and tanned from the sun. I never stayed in one place for long, moving constantly. Finally, I stopped in a small village within MacIntyre lands. I walked into the tavern, and sat down. I ordered a drink, and looked around. At a table sat the most handsome man I had ever seen. His close cropped brown hair, the thin beard, his solid build… I never thought that I would find love, but there I did.

I settled into the town, helping the local smith with his tasks. Eventually, I found out what the man’s name was. He was Robert MacIntyre, leader of the clan. His father had died of an unknown illness, and he had taken over at the age of 15. He had no wife, but was the apple of many young girl’s eye. I was determined to make him mine, and I would do it in a way that would make my father proud. I would enter the upcoming spring games, show him my strength, and then tell him how I felt. I was a more than a little naïve to courtship, but it was certainly different from the prancing of foolish girls that he was used to.

In the end, my plan worked, although not quite how I had planned. I won the games, but instead of me professing my love, he professed his. Soon after, we became engaged. He needed an heir, and I had to pass on my father’s legacy somehow. I showed my to-be husband my tattoo, and made him swear to keep it secret. However, in exchange, he asked that I not teach my descendants unless the need arose. I agreed, and the last thing that I forged was a ring, one that would continue down the line of clan leaders.

Our son William has led the clan well, and when he received the ring, and was told of the origins and the covenant I had made with his father. He was sworn to secrecy as well, and we continued to live peacefully. Now, however, my grandson has received the ring, but not the knowledge… yet. He faces dark times, fighting creatures worse than the sidhe, known as the syrneth. He searches for a weapon to help fight them, and as a test, I’ve sent him to avenge his unknown great-grandfather, against the giant Jack of Irons. Should he return, I’ll give him the book that is his heritage, for I can no longer teach nor forge. Hopefully, he’ll be able to carry on the legacy of his forefathers, and that of his grandmother, Connie MacEachern-MacIntyre.
